For too many years I was unhappy with who I was. Physically, emotionally and mentally. I spent so much energy battling myself… Never feeling good enough, skinny enough, happy enough. I would compare myself to others, while attempting to squeeze myself into someone else’s box, trying to “fit in,” and it was exhausting.
I remember the day that I finally got fed up and decided it was time to make some serious changes. I was sick of getting in my own way. I walked straight up to the personal trainer I wanted to work with, introduced myself and told her I wanted to get my body moving and lose some weight. It was the best thing I could have ever done for myself.
That first step started a domino effect…I started choosing the monotony of success that created results: Moving my body. Eating healthy. Doing the mindset work. Rinse and repeat.
Things started to shift… I learned what my body was capable of and how strong I could feel.
I became empowered. My mindset improved and I actually started to like myself!
I lost about 40 pounds, and have now maintained my weight for years, which is something I had never been able to do before.
I ran half marathons, when before I ‘hated’ running.
I cooked (and still love to cook) delicious, nutrient dense food, because it makes me feel vibrant and energized.
I became happier than I had been in years and continue to create a life that fills my cup every single day.
I started to smile and laugh a lot, and I wasn’t faking the happiness anymore.
The journey over the last 11 years has not been easy. In fact, it’s been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But fighting through all of the obstacles, dealing with the naysayers and doing the damn thing anyway has created a strength in my I can never truly explain.
So, my questions for you today are: Who is it that you want to be? How do you want to live your life? And why do you continue to stand in your own way day after day? Is fitting in and doing what is “comfortable” really worth it?
